Ghost device

Birch plywood, textiles.

Two joined sections: 6 ft. x 34 in. x 5 ft. on the tall side, 4 ft. x 30 in. x 4.5 ft. on the shorter.

A double staircase, one white side ascending, the dark other descending. I made this in memory of my youngest brother who died in the spring of 2023. He hand-built a beautiful oak staircase in his house a few years before his death– a staircase that traveled in the light from one window into the darkness of its landings. The ‘device’ of the title refers to the utility of a staircase, the ‘ghost’ to the way my brother’s presence lingered in the house he built.
