Startling the Echoes

Aircraft cable, grip-locks, birch plywood, textiles

10 ft. x 12 ft. x 12 ft.

Sixteen flat panels, each 10 ft. x 12 ft. x 2 in., with tied, sewn, and knotted translucent metallic textiles. Each is suspended from a ceiling grid, the fabric on the three rear sections trail on the floor, the middle sections dangle above the floor, and the highest sections hang 4 ft. above the floor. The fabric strips are extremely dense but also diaphanous because of their translucency. It is a reference to a destroyed structure– they duplicate the effect of being inside a building whose roof and walls have fallen in. The imagery came from a claustrophobic dream.
